The archive of what I posted on Twitter, which I now self host due to a lack of trust in Twitter and some other reasons.

I'll soon begin refelcting all my Mastodon posts here too. I'm happier self-hosting or maintaining an archive of my content on URLs that I can own.

There are tools to help you do this too. Such as this one from the makers of Eleventy.

@peggyrayzis @graphqlsummit Awesome!

FWIW, I pulled together some of my answers to this question into a gist.

The best answer is probably - be yourself and enjoy it. But some more detailed thoughts and discussion here. I hope some of it is useful.

After years thinking I was alone wanting to re-imagine how we approach CMS on "proper" projects, hearing @erquhart describe headless, API, and Git-based approaches was like finally coming in from the cold. ❤️

As an industry, we've progressed.
But when @erquhart talks, I listen. https://twitter.com/jamstackconf/status/1181929465124917248

Making a note to swot up: "financial entertainment".

@DavidDarnes @markboulton @Netlify @eleven_ty @Robb0wen Along those lines, I made a little demo of using Netlify Image Transforms with macros as used by SSGs like @eleven_ty (which might be of interest now you are using NLM)

And that grew into an example for lazy loading:

A totally understandable, but still a sad development given current events in Hong Kong.

I really feel for @charis who pours her heart and soul into making this event so wonderful, and had to make this tough decision.

Suggest watching for 2020. It’s a wonderful event. https://twitter.com/webconf_asia/status/1181870706595975168

@aexmo @markboulton @brendandawes @DavidDarnes @Netlify @eleven_ty I advocate for using the just those tools which make your life easier. And no more.

(And I try to think of Future Phil, who sometimes gets annoyed by the shoddy decisions of Past Phil)

Not all "helpers" are equally easy to use, for sure.

@markboulton @DavidDarnes @Netlify @eleven_ty Whether or not it speeds up your builds + deploys will mostly depend on what you do with those images in your build. (You don't *have* to use the Netlify image manipulations to do resizing etc - that's just a bonus).

Moving them out of your repo should speed up cloning step.

@brendandawes @markboulton @DavidDarnes @Netlify @eleven_ty Pssst. They still are.

We can still do version control via file names like http://index.html.v3.final.keep.latest.test.v15.todelete.html if we want to.

But git and other tools have come along to help.

@DavidDarnes @markboulton @Netlify @eleven_ty Either really. But especially useful as either the quantity or size of the images rises. Git is not the perfect place for assets like that. They bloat your repo.

Git LFS was designed to solve that and Netlify LM is a wrapper to simplify the use of that.
