The archive of what I posted on Twitter, which I now self host due to a lack of trust in Twitter and some other reasons.

I'll soon begin refelcting all my Mastodon posts here too. I'm happier self-hosting or maintaining an archive of my content on URLs that I can own.

There are tools to help you do this too. Such as this one from the makers of Eleventy.

For the last few years she has volunteered for the @AfricanLibraryP, sourcing, packing and shipping entire libraries to communities in Africa. Now she also manages entire shipping containers of libraries and facilitates the donation of hundreds of thousands of books.

She helped to found, and is COO of an organisation dedicated to supporting more and more people find shelter, find jobs, and get reestablished in a society which is quick to shut doors in their faces.

She volunteers at @HopesCorner_MV to provide showers, meals, clothes, resources, and friendship to countless people. There, she is a force of nature. When I've been to help out, watching her do her thing there is incredible. (You can donate to help https://www.hopes-corner.org/donate)

She works with the homeless and people at risk of homelessness to find them safety and security. Those she helps are people most of us overlook. Many became her friends. She works tirelessly for them. Going to extraordinary lengths to help. Saving numerous lives.

By being the most incredibly dedicated and supportive mum, she and husband Paul raised 3 incredible kids to become the kind of people I aspire to be.

At 21, she moved from away from home the UK, to live in the US. First in Boston, where she taught children with special needs, and then to SF to start a family. Away from her childhood family and the familiar, to new adventures.

Courage and ambition I still marvel at.

There are so many colleagues, friends, and inspirations who deserve a shout out this #IWD2022, but let's also remember that not everyone is very online. Like one of the people I admire most on this planet: my sister.

Here are just a few reasons why...

@mattyfromle You're right.

I'm just so saddened by our country's collective apathy or wilful disbelief which allows these people to be, or to remain, elected to represent us. We reap what we sow.

@PeteCapeCod Oh for sure. I’d urge all companies to pay towards the open source projects they use. (At @netlify we support very many projects with sponsorship)

My anxiety comes when an open source project gets totally owned by an org. That’s when they need to demonstrate good, open habits.

@SimonToth83 As long as you are happy that the framework you choose and build with today, might gradually become more proprietary and tightly coupled to a specific platform over time.

Not everything has to be an open source product. But lock-in is a risk if "owner" trumps community.

...so following @netlify's sponsoring of @zachleat's full time development of @eleven_ty, I was thrilled to see deployment guides for multiple build and hosting providers.

A great signal for the openness and health of this project.

Seeing open source frameworks getting major support from companies is great, but one consideration for me is if those frameworks then become beholden to the needs and demands of that company.

This is the bullseye for me! No one tool fits every type of project. Next.js can be a good choice for applications and sites with more complex transactional functionality. But very often, YAGNI.

I'd love to read your post :)
