The archive of what I posted on Twitter, which I now self host due to a lack of trust in Twitter and some other reasons.

I'll soon begin refelcting all my Mastodon posts here too. I'm happier self-hosting or maintaining an archive of my content on URLs that I can own.

There are tools to help you do this too. Such as this one from the makers of Eleventy.

@JSCampRo This was not upsetting to watch at all.
I'm fine. Why do you ask?

@joaocarmona @swyx Yeah, it's similar. But subtly different.

Serverless Pre-Rendering is using functions to populate the CDN with the pages either after every request, or at a configured interval.

My example assumes everything comes from the build. Only hitting a function if something 404s.

To make this, I took a small pieces loosely joined approach, using:

- @fauna
- @eleven_ty
- @Netlify + Netlify Functions

...but I'm not going to lie. My crowning glory is a smart-arsed 404 page using SVG in a needy attempt to make @sarah_edo proud.

@swyx @_Ezell_ @fauna That's right. The scenario is:
Fulfil that URL immediately. And then make pre-render it and enhance it more later if needed (but then not in a time-critical context)

@_Ezell_ @swyx It's agnostic of the SSG you are using, but effectively it's making use of custom 404 routing and serverless functions to query the underlying database (@fauna in this example) to get the page, while your automatic site regeneration completes. (No client-side js required)

I made *a thing* so that I could play with using #serverless functions to render pages on the fly while a site deployment completes.

You can play with it here: https://vlolly.net
And you can read all about it on @css

@DasSurma @zachleat @jeromecoupe @eleven_ty Nice. I didn't want to go quite as low level as that. I like dabbling around with what conventions @eleven_ty gives by default. But I do also love how extensible it is via this sort of approach.

@zachleat @DasSurma @jeromecoupe @eleven_ty I use pagination for this on my blog. I want some pages to get rendered as a page, and also to get another representation with a simpler template so that I can use that to make images for OG and social. ( “I add “card” to its frontmatter if I want one)

The revolution will not be televised! (So you had better grab a ticket and get yourself to @AbbeyTheatreStA in #StAlbans on Thursday night)

In fairness, it’s not a revolution so much as a comedy night. But with @adambloomie2 headlining & 3 more hilarious acts, you should come!
