@swyx @chriscoyier @the_prion @software_daily We’re talking about this use of JavaScript in the front end. On the web. The web is where JS was born. It only relatively recently moved beyond the client.
This is one of the reasons I’m such a fan of @eleven_ty. It’s an elegant tool for rapidly generating your HTML. (That stuff web browsers were built to understand and have been optimising for, for 30 years)

I think that many who have specialised in front-end more recently (say in the last 5 years) arrived at a time when JavaScript tools are fashionable, and often place their stock in JS tools and frameworks rather than HTML and established web fundamentals.
